2019 was a very successful year for our 1776 United FC Xtreme (01 Girls). After collecting their fourth state championship in a row, with a resounding 6-1 victory in the final, as well as the club’s first ever Regional League title , they traveled to West Virginia to win the eastern region championship title, Nether/1776 United’s first since 2003.
The team continued their fine form in the first round of games in the National League in December, winning four games, scoring 20 goals and allowing only 2, against some of the best teams in the country. They went on to win the league with the second round of games in January of this year, giving them automatic qualification to the national championships in Kansas in July.
The 1776 United FC Xtreme ended 2019 in all National Championship Series events (National League, Regional League, State Cup, Regional Championships and National Championships) with a record of 23 wins, 3 defeats, scoring 108 goals and allowing only 12 against.
Remarkably, the team contains 5 players, who at U19 have each spent more than 10 years playing for Nether and 1776 United.
In recognition of these achievements, EPYSA have named them their Team of the Year and they will travel to Reading in February to receive their honor. However, in their last year together before embarking on their college careers, the girls feel they have a lot more work to do to fulfill their goal of being titled national champions.
We wish them good luck for the next six months in achieving this lofty goal, and we are very proud of not only all they have achieved, but more importantly the manner in which they have represented themselves and our club in doing so.
