Earlier this week, EPYSA announced in accordance with the Chester County Health Department guidelines, that they have altered their stance on the masking of players during their time on the field of play (outdoors). Specifically, “players that are actively engaged in sports on the field do not need to wear a mask. This applies for both players who are vaccinated and unvaccinated.” This advisory only includes Delaware, Chester and Bucks County, therefore play outside of those areas will require the club to adhere to local guidelines. In addition, each club or field you visit may have their own rules, which supersede this guidance.
In addition to this one change, there are still several protocols that have not changed. For example, as a spectator, masking is recommended for those in the stands with prolonged exposure within 6’ of non-household members. Players on the sidelines, coaches and spectators are still required to comply with mask wearing and social distancing guidelines. For players, coaches and parents, these recommendations are applicable for those vaccinated and unvaccinated.
Nether soccer has followed the path EPYSA has outlined long before the pandemic, and doing so during it has enabled our club to grow. We understand that this change will be welcomed by many and disapproved of by others.
